Country Director – Benin (International NGO)

About the role

The Country Director will lead Mercy Ships’ operations in Benin, serving as the senior representative to government, donors and partners. This full‑time, on‑site position oversees strategy, program delivery, financial stewardship and compliance, while preparing the country for future hospital‑ship visits.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and regularly review the country strategy, aligning it with national health priorities and Mercy Ships’ global program goals.
• Represent Mercy Ships with ministries, senior officials, diplomatic missions, healthcare institutions, professional bodies and donors.
• Lead and coordinate the in‑country team across programmatic, operational, financial and administrative functions.
• Oversee planning, prioritisation and execution of country programmes and partnerships, including support for ship‑field services.
• Manage the country budget, financial performance, resource allocation and ensure responsible stewardship of organisational and donor funds.
• Ensure robust monitoring, evaluation, reporting and compliance with organisational policies.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level leadership experience in international development, health systems or humanitarian NGOs.
• Proven ability to build and maintain high‑level relationships with government, diplomatic and health sector stakeholders.
• Strong strategic thinking, financial management and operational oversight capabilities.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
