Mechanic II – Vehicle Maintenance

About the role

The Department of Public Works is seeking a Mechanic II to perform routine and advanced maintenance on its fleet of vehicles and equipment. This full‑time position ensures that all assets remain in optimal condition to support city operations and public services.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, fluid checks, brake inspections, battery testing, and lubrication.
• Execute advanced repairs including engine performance work, transmission repairs, hydraulic system maintenance, and electrical system troubleshooting.
• Diagnose complex mechanical issues independently and conduct detailed inspections to prevent failures.
• Operate vehicle lifts and specialized equipment safely and maintain tools in proper working order.
• Manage equipment, maintain safety standards, and keep accurate maintenance records.
• Support emergency response and adverse weather situations as needed.

Required profile

• Mid‑level mechanic with proven experience in vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating with senior mechanics and other city departments.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Commitment to safety procedures and documentation standards.
