Mechanic II – Vehicle Maintenance (Public Works)

About the role

The Department of Public Works is seeking a Mechanic II to perform routine and advanced maintenance on its fleet of vehicles and equipment. This mid‑level position ensures that all assets remain in optimal condition to support city operations and public services.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, fluid checks, brake inspections, battery testing, and lubrication of chassis components.
• Perform advanced repairs including engine performance work, transmission repairs, hydraulic system maintenance, and electrical system troubleshooting.
• Diagnose complex mechanical issues independently and execute detailed inspections to prevent future failures.
• Operate vehicle lifts and specialized equipment safely, maintaining tools in proper working order.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and support emergency response efforts as needed.

Required profile

• Mid‑level experience in automotive or heavy‑equipment maintenance.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and follow safety protocols.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and capacity to collaborate with senior mechanics and other city departments.
