UNFPA Representative – Benin (P-5)

About the role

The Representative leads UNFPA’s country team in Benin, overseeing the design and implementation of population, development and sexual and reproductive health programmes. Working at the intersection of humanitarian, development, peace and security contexts, the role advances the 2030 Agenda and the UNFPA Strategic Plan 2026‑2029.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the Country Programme of Cooperation, ensuring alignment with national development priorities and UNFPA’s mandate.
• Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, UN Country Teams, bilateral donors, civil society, academia and the private sector.
• Lead advocacy and resource mobilisation efforts to secure funding and political support for sexual and reproductive health and rights.
• Oversee programme implementation, including emergency response, to achieve outcomes in family planning, maternal health, gender‑based violence prevention and adolescent empowerment.
• Ensure transparent and accountable management of resources and programme results.

Required profile

• Extensive experience leading complex, multi‑sectoral programmes in a humanitarian‑development‑peace nexus.
• Proven ability to work with high‑level national and international partners.
• Strong understanding of population dynamics, sexual and reproductive health, and gender issues.
• Demonstrated commitment to UN values, human rights and ethical standards.
