Manager 1 – Welfare & Self-Reliance

About the role
The successful candidate will lead and coordinate welfare and self‑reliance initiatives for members of the Church, helping individuals and families become self‑sufficient both temporally and spiritually. Reporting to the Area Welfare/Self‑Reliance Manager, the role involves extensive travel across the assigned service area to build partnerships with employers, educational institutions, government agencies and community organisations.
Key responsibilities
- Support local Church leaders in planning, launching and evaluating self‑reliance programs, including goal setting, facilitator training and resource development.
- Deliver general and specialised welfare training to Church leaders and partner organisations, covering onboarding, resource updates and digital tools.
- Develop and maintain relationships with employers, schools, government bodies and self‑employment networks to secure resources that meet local needs.
- Act as the primary contact for urgent welfare requests, preventative measures and humanitarian assistance.
- Provide technical training, mentorship and ongoing support to ward and stake self‑reliance specialists.
- Monitor program effectiveness, prepare progress and expense reports and recommend continuous improvements.
- Complete all assigned administrative duties in a timely manner.
Required profile
- Current valid temple recommend.
- Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in business, sales, marketing or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years of professional experience, including work with mid‑ to senior‑level management, start‑ups or business development roles.
- Proven ability to train large groups and coach individuals.
- Leadership experience with an understanding of welfare principles and the ability to influence Priesthood and Relief Society leaders.
- Knowledge of employment and labor regulations.
- Strong analytical, communication and creative problem‑solving skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively and work from a mobile office.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve organisational goals.
