Operations Manager III

About the role

The Department of Public Works is seeking an Operations Manager III to lead city‑wide public works operations. This senior manager will provide strategic direction, oversee daily field activities, and ensure safety, compliance, and performance across multiple service areas.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and evaluate operations for fleet maintenance, parks upkeep, environmental depot, recycling, waste diversion, and solid waste collection.
• Lead division managers, supervisors, crew leads, technicians, contractors, and seasonal staff.
• Oversee the Operations Center, asset management, inventory, procurement, and budget administration.
• Develop and enforce occupational safety, health, regulatory compliance, risk management, and emergency preparedness programs.
• Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives and support city‑wide emergency response.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing large‑scale public works or municipal operations.
• Strong leadership and ability to coordinate cross‑functional teams.
• Demonstrated knowledge of safety regulations, environmental standards, and budgetary controls.
• Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
