Streets Supervisor

About the role

The Streets Supervisor leads daily street and right‑of‑way operations for a municipal Department of Public Works, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality delivery of public works services. This hands‑on supervisory position works directly in the field alongside crew members, coordinating work, monitoring productivity, and responding to emergencies.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and participate in daily field operations, assigning work, coordinating staffing, and ensuring timely completion of work orders and service requests.
• Inspect infrastructure, field conditions, and completed work to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and corrective actions.
• Enforce safety procedures and proper use of vehicles, equipment, tools, traffic‑control devices, and personal protective equipment.
• Operate vehicles and heavy equipment as needed for routine maintenance and emergency response.
• Monitor vehicle, equipment, and inventory usage; coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs.
• Coordinate with contractors, utilities, and other agencies on work affecting Streets Division operations.
• Respond to resident concerns, operational issues, and emergencies promptly and professionally.
• Assist with budgeting, purchasing, reporting, operational planning, and documentation of maintenance activities.
• Support employee training, mentoring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary processes.

Required profile

• Knowledge of street, sidewalk, drainage, street‑sweeping, and right‑of‑way maintenance operations.
• Understanding of safe vehicle and heavy‑equipment operation, traffic‑control practices, and work‑zone safety regulations.
• Ability to supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate field personnel.
• Strong organizational and communication skills for coordination with contractors, utilities, and internal divisions.
