Technician I – Public Works (Full‑Time)

About the role

The Department of Public Works is seeking a Technician I to support operations across multiple divisions, including solid waste, streets, parks, and building maintenance. This full‑time position involves manual, semi‑skilled, and skilled work performed on city property.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and load trash, compost, yard waste, and bulk items.
• Clean and maintain streets, sidewalks, parks, and facilities.
• Perform mowing, landscaping, and tree‑maintenance activities.
• Remove snow and ice from city property using hand tools and equipment.
• Assist with street and sidewalk maintenance such as pothole patching, debris removal, and basic repairs.
• Install and maintain city signage and infrastructure.
• Operate hand tools and power equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, jackhammers).
• Assist with maintenance and minor repairs of tools and equipment.
• Support seasonal operations like leaf collection and storm response.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Ability to perform manual and semi‑skilled labor safely.
• Capability to operate tools, vehicles, and equipment following safety procedures.
• Capacity to work independently (Level II–III) and as part of a team.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in manual labor or public‑works operations preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; CDL preferred but not required.

Required skills

• Hand‑tools operation.
• Power‑equipment operation (mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, jackhammers).
• Vehicle operation with a valid driver’s license.
