Engineering and Maintenance Manager

About the role

The Engineering & Maintenance Manager will lead all engineering and maintenance activities across the company’s downstream fuel operations, including retail, distribution, ground fuels, LPG, aviation, and B2B assets. This role ensures assets are safe, reliable, compliant, and cost‑effective while supporting business continuity and growth in diverse African operating environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineering and maintenance functions across multi‑asset downstream operations, implementing policies, standards, and strategies aligned with corporate objectives.
• Establish and manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programmes, driving improvements in asset availability, reliability, and lifecycle cost.
• Support and govern capital projects, refurbishments, and upgrades, reviewing and approving maintenance‑related designs and ensuring smooth handover to operations.
• Ensure compliance with HSE, process safety, petroleum, LPG, and aviation regulations; lead risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
• Develop and manage OPEX and CAPEX budgets, monitor cost performance, and implement cost‑optimization initiatives.
• Manage contractors, service providers, and OEMs, ensuring competency, safety compliance, and performance; approve work completion and certify invoices.
• Lead, develop, and mentor engineering and maintenance teams, establishing training, competency frameworks, and succession plans.
• Define KPIs for maintenance, reliability, safety, and cost; track performance and drive continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with retail, distribution, supply, HSSE, finance, commercial teams and engage regulators, airport authorities, B2B customers, and joint‑venture partners.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading engineering and maintenance functions in downstream fuel or similar industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of asset integrity, reliability engineering, and maintenance best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to manage capital projects and oversee construction to operational handover.
• In‑depth understanding of HSE, process safety, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
• Experience in budgeting, cost control, and financial performance monitoring.
• Effective leadership and people‑development skills, with a focus on building high‑performing teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration abilities.
