Engineering and Maintenance Manager

About the role

The Engineering & Maintenance Manager leads all engineering and maintenance activities across the company's downstream fuel operations, covering retail, distribution, ground fuels, LPG, aviation, and B2B assets. The role ensures assets are safe, reliable, compliant, and cost‑effective while supporting business continuity and growth in diverse African environments.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineering and maintenance functions across multi‑asset downstream operations and act as the technical authority for decisions.
• Develop and implement engineering policies, standards, and maintenance strategies aligned with corporate objectives.
• Establish preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs and manage asset integrity frameworks, including inspections, testing, and certifications.
• Support and govern capital projects, refurbishments, and upgrades; review and approve maintenance‑related designs and ensure smooth handover from construction to operations.
• Ensure compliance with HSE, process safety, petroleum, LPG, and aviation regulations; lead risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
• Develop and manage OPEX and CAPEX budgets, monitor cost performance, and drive cost‑optimization initiatives.
• Manage contractors, service providers, and OEMs, ensuring competency, safety compliance, and performance; approve work completion and certify invoices.
• Lead, develop, and mentor engineering and maintenance teams, establishing training, competency frameworks, and succession plans.
• Define KPIs for maintenance, reliability, safety, and cost; track performance and drive continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with retail, distribution, supply, HSSE, finance, commercial teams, regulators, airport authorities, B2B customers, and joint‑venture partners.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading engineering and maintenance functions in downstream fuel or similar industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of asset integrity, preventive/predictive maintenance, and reliability engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to manage capital projects and oversee construction‑to‑operations handovers.
• Deep understanding of HSE, process safety, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
• Experience budgeting OPEX and CAPEX, cost control, and procurement strategy.
• Effective contractor and vendor management skills, including performance review and invoice certification.
• Leadership capability to develop teams, establish training programs, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
