Vehicle Maintenance Manager

About the role

The Vehicle Maintenance Manager leads the City’s fleet maintenance division, ensuring safe, efficient and reliable operation of all municipal vehicles and equipment. This hands‑on supervisory role combines field work with shop oversight, coordinating staff, contractors and vendors to keep the fleet running without interruption.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily vehicle maintenance activities, assigning work, monitoring productivity and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
• Oversee preventative maintenance programs, diagnostics, inspections and repairs for gasoline, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as specialty equipment and trailers.
• Manage fleet asset management software, inventory, vendor relationships and contractor coordination.
• Support fleet replacement planning, equipment lifecycle tracking and regulatory compliance.
• Provide emergency response support and lead workforce development initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven supervisory experience in vehicle or fleet maintenance environments.
• Knowledge of gasoline, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicle systems.
• Familiarity with municipal or public‑works fleet operations and regulatory requirements.
