National Consultant for SMART Nutrition Survey – Cotonou, Benin

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a senior national consultant to lead a SMART‑based nutrition survey in Cotonou, Benin. The consultant will design, implement and oversee all phases of the survey, ensuring high‑quality data collection and analysis to inform child health and social protection interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the survey design, sampling methodology and data collection tools using the SMART approach and Open Data Kit Collect.
• Recruit, train and supervise field teams, manage logistics for field missions, and ensure adherence to quality standards.
• Perform data cleaning, statistical analysis (using ENA, SPSS, SAS or similar), and produce comprehensive technical reports with actionable recommendations.

Required profile

• University degree (minimum Bac+5) in nutrition, public health or a related field.
• At least 10 years of experience conducting national or international nutrition surveys using the SMART methodology.
• Fluent French with excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary field teams and work in multicultural environments.

Required skills

• Expertise in SMART survey methodology and mobile data collection (ODK Collect).
• Strong analytical skills with proficiency in statistical software such as Epi‑Info, ENA, SPSS or SAS.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher) for reporting.
• Knowledge of nutrition indicators beyond basic anthropometry and familiarity with social protection concepts.
