National Consultant for SMART Nutrition Survey – Cotonou, Benin

About the role

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is seeking a national consultant to lead the implementation of a SMART‑standardized nutrition survey for the Division of Child Survival and Development in Cotonou, Benin. The consultant will work remotely with periodic field missions to collect, analyse and report disaggregated nutrition data to inform emergency and development interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and adapt the SMART nutrition survey methodology, including sample size calculation and sampling strategy.
• Recruit, train and supervise field teams, ensuring quality data collection using mobile tools.
• Manage data capture with Open Data Kit Collect and oversee data cleaning, validation and analysis.
• Produce technical reports and policy briefs presenting multi‑indicator nutrition findings beyond basic anthropometry.

Required profile

• University degree (minimum Bac+5) in nutrition, public health or a related field.
• At least 10 years of experience in public nutrition surveys, preferably using the SMART methodology at national or international level.
• Fluent French with excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work in multicultural teams and manage field staff.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Open Data Kit Collect (ODK) and mobile data‑collection technologies.
• Advanced use of data‑analysis software such as ENA, Epi‑Info, SPSS and SAS.
• Competence in statistical and epidemiological methods.
• Strong command of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Publisher for reporting.
