Building, Janitorial & Grounds Maintenance Supervisor

About the role

The Department of Public Works is seeking a hands‑on Building, Janitorial and Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to lead daily operations that keep city facilities safe, clean and functional. This full‑time role combines supervisory duties with active field work, ensuring high‑quality service delivery across buildings, parks, pavilions and public amenities.

Key responsibilities

• Assign work, monitor productivity and attendance of technicians, crew leads, seasonal staff and contractors.
• Inspect facilities, pavilions, gazebos, Bigbelly trash cans, parks infrastructure and restrooms to identify maintenance needs and safety issues.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules, emergency response actions and event‑support operations.
• Maintain, service and document fire extinguishers, AEDs and other life‑safety equipment.
• Enforce safety procedures, ensure proper use of vehicles, tools, PPE and cleaning supplies.
• Operate vehicles, tools and equipment as required to support maintenance tasks.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising building, janitorial or grounds maintenance teams, preferably in a municipal or public‑works setting.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations, life‑safety equipment and preventive maintenance practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively with contractors, vendors, utilities and internal departments.
• Excellent organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple work orders simultaneously.

Required skills

• Vehicle operation and equipment handling.
• Inspection and documentation of fire extinguishers and AEDs.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety procedures.
