Public Infrastructure and Projects Specialist

About the role

The Public Infrastructure and Projects Specialist supports the Department of Public Works by reviewing traffic engineering projects, managing petitions, conducting traffic studies, and leading community engagement. This cross‑functional role helps implement programs, coordinate projects, and serve residents, businesses, and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with traffic calming, safety program research, and traffic studies, including data collection and policy analysis.
• Develop benchmarking reports and support transportation planning and corridor studies.
• Create and maintain Smartsheet templates for petition tracking and analyze post‑installation traffic data.
• Conduct field reviews of street repairs, sign maintenance, pavement markings, and document findings.
• Support trail coordination, bicycle infrastructure planning, and grant applications.
• Assist Sustainable Maryland certification, sustainability reporting, and environmental compliance.
• Maintain utility contact databases, track curb‑cut and driveway permits, and monitor permit timelines.
• Support streetlight inventory, modernization projects, and energy procurement analysis.

Required profile

• Strong organizational and customer‑service orientation.
• Ability to work across multiple municipal functions and coordinate with internal departments.
• Experience with traffic engineering concepts, project planning, and community engagement.
