System Operator – Power Systems

About the role

The West African Power Pool (WAPP) is seeking qualified System Operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of its interconnected regional electricity network. The role involves real‑time coordination of power flows across member utilities to meet market demand and support a sustainable regional electricity market.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control the WAPP interconnected power system in real‑time.
• Maintain safe and reliable operation of high‑voltage transmission networks.
• Coordinate power dispatch according to market requirements and system constraints.
• Utilise SCADA tools to supervise and manage grid performance.
• Respond promptly to system disturbances and implement corrective actions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 5–7 years of experience in power system operations, preferably in transmission or interconnected grids.
• Proven knowledge of high‑voltage transmission networks and generation plant operations.
• Experience using SCADA systems for grid monitoring and control.
• Fluency in English or French, with working knowledge of the other language.
