About the role
The Engineering & Maintenance Manager leads all engineering and maintenance activities for a diversified downstream fuel operation, covering retail, distribution, ground fuels, LPG, aviation and B2B assets. The role ensures that assets are safe, reliable, compliant and cost‑effective while supporting business continuity, growth and capital projects across varied African operating environments.
Key responsibilities
- Lead engineering and maintenance functions across multi‑asset downstream operations and act as the technical authority for related decisions.
- Develop and enforce engineering policies, standards and maintenance strategies aligned with corporate objectives.
- Design, implement and continuously improve preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes and asset‑integrity frameworks.
- Support and govern capital projects, refurbishments and upgrades, ensuring smooth hand‑over from construction to operations.
- Ensure compliance with HSE, process‑safety, petroleum, LPG and aviation regulations; lead risk assessments, audits and incident investigations.
- Develop, monitor and optimise OPEX maintenance budgets and engineering‑related CAPEX budgets.
- Manage contractors, service providers and OEMs, overseeing competency, safety compliance and performance, including quarterly reviews.
- Lead, develop and mentor engineering and maintenance teams, establishing training, competency frameworks and succession plans.
- Define KPIs, track performance and report to senior management, driving continuous‑improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with retail, distribution, supply, HSSE, finance and commercial teams as well as regulators and customers.
Required profile
- Proven leadership experience in engineering and maintenance within downstream fuel or similar industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of asset integrity, reliability engineering and maintenance best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large‑scale capital projects and multi‑disciplinary teams.
- In‑depth understanding of HSE, process‑safety and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Experience in budgeting, cost control and contractor performance management.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
